Banff Bike Park

                                                      Banff  Bike Park

The Banff Bike Park has seen a major redevelopment and upgrade in June and July of 2009. The re-design and construction has been overseen by BVMBA Director Doug Topp and the enthusiastic and unstoppable Ruben Salzgeber from Rebound Cycles in Canmore. Ruben  attacked  the project with excitement and enthusiasm and when the dust had settled from some 40 truck loads of dirt that was carted to the site, Ruben went to work sculpturing an awesome pump track and a new jump line for the Park.

Now go to the Park and have fun!

LC ( Louis Charles), Ruben and Doug take a breather from doing the grunt work at the Bike Park

Nice jump Ruben -- now back to work there buddy !! There are more jumps to build.

Oh yeah -- that Jump Line is looking really sweet!

The locals love to volunteer in Banff and this young fellow said he'd mow down all the overgrown green grass sections. But in the end we had to relocate him as he became more of a hinderance than  help. But thanks for the offer anyway!  We're sure you'll be back when we aren't around.

Some History on the Bike Park

February 12th, 2007 the Banff Town Council approved funding to the Banff Free Riders Bike Park Association of a further $10,000-- on top of the $5000-- previously given. Much of the original funding was used to do the environmental screening for the project. It is expected that this $10,000-- will be matched by a  Community Initiatives Program grant for the same amount and this will give the Association a real boost towards its $45,000-- funding goal.
The Banff Bike Park was completed in June 2007 thanks to the help of many volunteers and businesses. The Park has been slightly modified since its opening and we expect it will be continually tweaked as improvements and modifications are called for.

The Bike Park has had strong support from the Banff Town Council since the concept for the park began. It plans to use the town's liability insurance policy to protect the bike park and its users.
The Bow Valley Mountain Bike Alliance congratulates the Town of Banff for its commitment to this project and its recognition for the need for this type of facility for local and visiting riders interested in testing and improving their bike skills. The Alliance hopes this Park will be a major step towards reducing the desire and need for riders to build illegal and potentially dangerous stunts in the woods around Banff townsite
.

Here are a few photos taken in the Park in June of 2008. If you have any really good photos then feel free to e-mail them to us and we will post them on this page.

And whoever stole the Bike Park's sign during the winter would you please return it to the Park or else we will send the mountain bike gods after you! Thanks.

This is James Down strutting his stuff in the Park on his first visit to it.

James faced with a decision -- left or right? Both are good.

Riding the low log.

Making it look sooo easy

Rest time while he plots his next move

And a bit of an artsy shot by his wife Mami.
